Dreams Can Come True || A Story Almost 30 Years In The Making

“Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

‭‭Philippians‬ ‭3:12-14‬

Last night something happened to me that I've dreamed about happening to me for almost thirty years. I was invited up on stage to sing the song JESUS FREAK with Michael Tait from the band Newsboys (also with dc talk).

I grew up on the JESUS FREAK CD. (kids, I know you don't know what a CD is...but it changed the way we listened to music. ) I was in 7th grade and a lady named Kay Little took me to go see Michael W. Smith and while there I got to see/hear this opening band called dc talk and from that point on my life would be totally different when it came to music. I became an instant super-fan of dc talk. I listened to their albums NON-STOP! I knew every word. I loved them so much that for a 8th grade talent show my friend Jeremy Little and I sang one of their songs in school. I saw dc talk in concert at least 5 times growing up. I saw Kevin MAX one year, when I was in high school with my friend Dan Lea, on his solo tour and I won a contest to open for him and sing a Christmas song (it was at Christmas time). I have seen TobyMac and Newsboys multiple times as well. To say I'm a fan is an understatement.

So last night the band decided to go down memory lane and do the dc talk song, JESUS FREAK and they said we need someone from the crowd to do the rap part of the song. I JUMPED to my feet screaming 'I'LL DO IT. I'LL DO IT.' They said OK, come on down. This was not staged or planned. I just saw an opportunity and I struck. ON the way down to the stage I googled the lyrics to the song, just in case. I did not want to mess this moment up. I read them over a couple of times waiting for my moment...they brought me on stage and handed me a mic and the rest was history.

Christians often say, 'man I wonder what it would be like if I could do this or that...but many times we are reluctant to do what is necessary or uncomfortable in order to change the world or at least change our own lives. Sometimes we have to be willing to step out in faith and be willing look crazy to the rest of the crowd in order to accomplish what we've been called to do. You can't worry about what the onlookers will think. All you need to worry about is what does JESUS think of you. Don't look back. Be willing to look ahead at what's coming next! Be willing to STAND up for JESUS CHRIST when the rest of the world is just sitting down. You never know where you might end up. While I'm writing this blog, I just got a message to come to the radio station. They want to interview me and talk about what happened at this concert event. JUST KEEP LOOKING AND MOVING FORWARD towards JESUS! Life is better when you do.

PS: I've got to share the stage with Michael Tait and Kevin Max, TOBY... we need to get something on the calendar soon!

PSS: Here is the video of what happened:
