Local Politics Matter

Updated: Nov 10, 2022

Politics matter because politics create policy and policy affects people. I know that many people focus on the national races, and those races get the most airtime on the media circuits, but in all reality who wins local races determines the outcome of what will happen in your town. I am a BIBLICAL conservative. Which means I weigh all things through the lenses of the Scriptures. I do this on national and LOCAL levels. Local races matter all the more because they dictate what happens in our streets. Over the last couple of months, there have been some very anti-Christ and anti-scripture events taking place in the PUBLIC square of my hometown and the silence of CHRISTIAN leaders is insulting. This last September the LGBTQ community put on a drag-queen show in a local public park and it was absolutely filthy, regardless of what the advocates of this movement say, it was out and out hellish. There was a petition that was sent around that got over 2,000 signatures requiring that events like this, that had adult content in them, must be done INSIDE where only those who are attending the event would be exposed to what was happening. The LGBTQ community has responded that they are concerned that their first amendment rights will be infringed upon and that there would be legal action taken if the city council does anything to stop them from having these types of events in the public square. So, most city council members have remained silent because they are worried about legal ramifications.

City ordinance No. 2628 City code Sec. 12-64 restricts ‘Indecent exposure’ and city code 12-65 restricts ‘lewd conduct.’ These two ordinances are more than enough to stop the foolishness that happened in September, but our local city council refuses to say or do anything out of FEAR of legal repercussions. Only ONE member of the city council has made a public stand to say that this should not have been done. There are those on the council who have made statements ‘off the record’ that they don’t like what happened at this drag queen show, but that they can’t really do anything about it. This is where my worldview differs from most ‘conservatives.’ My father, Ed Gordon, once said ‘When man’s law violates God’s law, man’s law must be disobeyed, and you must follow what God has laid out in His word.’ But here is the thing, in Bartlesville man’s law and God’s agree on this issue. So why in the

world are Christian council members refusing to do anything? I firmly think they are afraid of the LGBTQ community, but I stand with Peter when he says in Acts 5:29, “We must obey God rather than any human authority.” I am calling on our CHRIST-FOLLOWING council members to stand with God’s Word, as well as the STANDING CITY ORDINANCES, on this one!

I can promise you this, Biblical Christians in Bartlesville, if you don’t stand up now against this type of stuff, you’re going to wake up soon and the ‘small-town

values’ you once loved about this city will be absolutely obliterated by a small minority group. Don’t allow the minority to enact their immorality on the majority. Stand up against this now by getting engaged in the political process and stand up for what is right.

Silence in the face of evil is itself evil: God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act

is to act.” – Dietrich Bonhoeffer
