Pornified Culture; Our Hypersexual Society And The Consequences

Updated: Jan 6, 2023

I was reading through Judges 6 the other night and I happened upon something that was very thought-provoking.

That night the Lord said to him, “Take your father's bull, and the second bull seven years old, and pull down the altar of Baal that your father has, and cut down the Asherah that is beside it and build an altar to the Lord your God on the top of the stronghold here, with stones laid in due order. Then take the second bull and offer it as a burnt offering with the wood of the Asherah that you shall cut down”

(Judges 6:25-26 English Standard Version).

Context is king so let’s dig into the historical context here. Who are these ‘gods,’ Baal and Asherah, mentioned in the text?  Asherah was the goddess of sex and fertility and ‘worship’ of this ‘god’ consisted of giant orgies and sex parties. Worship of this ‘god’ was common during this period and we still see our culture continue to worship this ‘god’ with its obsession with sex. According to LifePlan.org, More money is made off sex than any other industry in the world (https://www.lifeplan.org/the-porn-pandemic/). Israel, as well as other nations at this time, were worshipping sex, but they didn’t stop there. Think about this: in these sex ‘worship services,’ babies would be conceived. This is a natural result of sexual intimacy. I don’t think it was by accident that the other ‘god’ worshiped at this time was Baal. Baal worship involved taking your babies and throwing them into a sacrificial fire, murdering them to achieve financial blessing and comfort. This is probably all starting to sound familiar. We are falling for this same false ideology, this devil worship today.  Our culture still worships sex. We believe we should be able to engage in a type of ‘no fault’ sexual activity, with no consequences whatsoever. In fact our former president, Barak Obama, once said in a statement about abortion ‘I don’t want my daughters PUNISHED with a baby.’ In other words, my daughters should be allowed to engage in whatever type of sexual activity they choose with no worries of having a baby, because a baby would impede their comfort and financial status. This is a wicked and worldly mindset.

Hear what God says through Jeremiah

“‘For the sons of Judah have done evil in my sight, declares the Lord. They have set their detestable things in the house that is called by my name, to defile it. And they have built the high places of Topheth, which is in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire, which I did not command, nor did it come into my mind. Therefore, behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when it will no more be called Topheth, or the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, but the Valley of Slaughter; for they will bury in Topheth, because there is no room elsewhere. And the dead bodies of this people will be food for the birds of the air, and for the beasts of the earth, and none will frighten them away. And I will silence in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, for the land

shall become a waste’” (Jeremiah 7:30-34).

We are building houses of worship that have the spirit of Asherah and Baal. We demand unbridled sex (LGBTQ+) and then pass our children through the fire (planned parenthood) when they impede our personal comforts. Because of this false worship and evil, God is making our land a wasteland. We have people in the church with their jaws on the floor after this last election wondering how things like this could happen. This is the reason. Many churches have been silent on the topics of sexual immorality and abortion and because of this God is judging us. Listen, I'm lumped into this group. I was once a man who engaged in sexual immorality. I'm sure someone would love to try and go back a decade or so and dig up some immoral dirt on me. Well, I'm here to say, I WAS once in that state, just like Ephesians 2:3 states 'among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body[a] and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.

That was me! a 'child of wrath' But keep reading in verse 4... 'But[c] God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—'

Praise God , that he saw fit to convict me of my wickedness and draw me to Himself and praise God he allowed me to repent of my sins and that he saved me!!!

Here is the thing, these two cultural issues are not simply ‘political’ in nature, they are biblical and personal in nature, because these two things impact every person on the planet. Everyone has been born; therefore, the sanctity of life should be an important topic to all of us. All humans should advocate for life. Furthermore, God created sexual intimacy to be a good thing in the appropriate context, that of covenant marriage between a man and a woman. This is one of the primary purposes of godly marriage, to be fruitful and multiply and cover the earth. Secular humanism would have us believe the lie that we are animals, and we should be able to engage in animalistic sexual activities. This lifestyle has consequences both in the here-and-now and into eternity (Romans 1).  Sex and children are not the problem. Rather, it is our sin nature that has twisted and messed up what God intended for His glory and for our good.

What is the answer to this? How can this be fixed? By returning to the basic biblical doctrines and commands that God has handed down for generations in His word. First, we need to repent of our sin of apathy in the church. Then, we need to stand on the biblical principles that address of these two issues.

Sex is designed for the covenant of marriage between ONE MAN and ONE WOMAN in order to bring glory to God. Marriage also displays the gospel in the way it pictures the relationship between Christ and the church. Marriage is for God’s glory and our good. Babies are a blessing from the Lord. We should see them as such and not fall for the lie that children are an inconvenience or a problem to be exterminated. When we begin to see the world through the lens of scripture, we will see true and lasting transformation for the good of humanity and the glory of KING JESUS!
