Theology Matters

Updated: Jun 7, 2023

Theology really does matter. How we view God matters.

The fight is real. I am watching it in real time. I am seeing the warning signs that are telling us we'd better be paying attentoin. What is it that I’m referring to? The attack on Biblical Christianity.

Let me explain. Theological liberalism has crept into the church, and it’s causing some real problems. Theological liberalism is the idea that the scriptures are not the final authority for our lives, but rather our experiences are the measuring factors that dictate truth. This is so far removed from actually biblical reality that it's mindblowing. And what we are seeing in 'Christian leadership' is a group of people who are up to their necks in humanism and rather than repenting and pursuing holiness and godliness what is taking place is the wholehearted pursuit of the flesh.

For those 'leaders' in the church that bleieve that our experiences are what determines truth we can deduce one thing for sure, that they are not true followers of Christ Jesus. They were imposters. So I want us to see that how we view God, the Bible, and humanity truly does matter.

1. Our view of God. Many Christians have a view that God is nothing more than a magical genie who grants wishes. Case and point is this quote from the false teacher Kenneth Copeland “I am a billionaire, because the assignment that the Lord gave me, He said: ‘I want you to begin to confess the billion flow.'” If we view God as a means to end we will not have the proper understanding of who God truly is. God is the most sovereign, holy, and worthy being in all of the universe that deserves our worship, regardless. God is not a the blue genie in a lamp form Disney that grants our dreams, goals or desires. He is THE KING above all kings and deserves our adoration or worship. Period.

2. Our view of the Bible. Many people including “Christians” view the Bible as a good book or an inspiring book, but those views are fundamentally flawed. God’s Word is the final authority for all of life, as well as for all of humanity. We will be judged according to God’s Word. The Bible is inspired and is literally the breath of God on paper. If we do not view God’s Word in this light, we will inevitably fall into the trap of humanism. For those who need to know what this line of thinking is humanism is, Humanism is a philosophical stance that emphasizes the individual and social potential, and agency of human beings, whom it considers the starting point for serious moral and philosophical inquiry. What this ideology does is that it sets us up to see ourselves as God rather than seeing Jesus as God. That is exactly what the devil did in the book of Genesis. (For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” Genesis 3:5 ) So when we prop ourselves up as the final authority, we end up being just like satan himself.

3. Our view of humanity. Something that is espoused in the world in which we live is that human beings are basically good, and we just have flawed moments. I know that sounds really catchy, but it’s a very dangerous view to hold to. Because when sin entered the world, it fractured and destroyed everything. That includes our goodness.

RC Sproul said once: 'The fall left the human will intact insofar as we still have the faculty of choosing. Our minds have been darkened by sin and our desires bound by the wicked impulses. But we can still think, choose and act. Yet something terrible has happened to us. We have lost all desire for God. The thoughts and desires of our heart are only evil continuously. The freedom of our will is a curse. Because we can still choose according to our desires, we choose to sin and thus we become accountable to the judgment of God.'

God’s word is very clear.

“We have all become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like a polluted garment. We all fade like a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away” (Isa. 64:6).

Furthermore, God’s Word says that we are not good, what makes us good? It’s Christ that makes us good.

“For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ” (2 Cor. 5:21).

If we as humans have any good, it is not our own. It is because of Jesus Christ alone. Our worldview matters. It will matter how and where you will spend your eternity. I want to plead with you Christians, don’t allow an anti-Christ worldviews to slip into your head. The enemy will try to set up shop in your life. Don’t give him any ground. Keep your focus on God’s Word and on Jesus himself. You will never go wrong.

God’s word says it best.

I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. (Romans 12:1-2)

When we are connected into God's word we will know what's right and whats wrong and we have the abliilty to do what God's called us to do.

Theology indeed does matter!

Stay alert! Stay focused.
